Keep Shepherds Bush and Hammersmith together

The Government has instructed the Boundary Commission to reduce the number and change the boundaries of Parliamentary seats.

For our area, the Commission have proposed that Shepherds Bush is split from Hammersmith and paired with Ealing or Brent.

Specifically, College Park & Old Oak Ward would be tagged onto Willesden as the only H&F ward in that new constituency. While Askew, Wormholt & White City and Shepherds Bush Green Wards would join an Ealing and Acton seat stretching beyond Ealing Broadway.

In a separate proposal the Conservatives have asked the Commission to put all four Shepherds Bush wards into a Brent constituency.

I am asking you to join me in objecting to the Commission’s proposal because:

•    Shepherds Bush wards would become the ‘poor relation’ as small parts of seats most of which are in much bigger boroughs
•    Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush would be divided roughly along the Goldhawk Road and south side of Shepherds Bush Green, with those north and south of this line being in different seats with different MPs.

If you want to see my full argument for keeping Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush together, you can read my counter-proposal here.

But all you need to do is leave a comment here.  This will be logged as a comment on my proposal, meaning you can put forward your own arguments or be as brief as saying ‘I support the proposal put forward by Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith, which keeps communities in Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush together’.

Either way, don’t forget the consultation closes next Monday 27 March, so make sure you have your say before then.

I also fully support the proposal put forward by MP Andy Slaughter, which keeps both communities in Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush together. Out of order move to keep Hammersmith always in one party!

I fully support the proposal put forward by Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith, which keeps communities in Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush together. I am voting for him in the general election, with the boundary change as proposed I will not get a say in who represents me for the next 5 years.

I am really resistant to this boundary change. I am voting in an election for a candidate I would like to represent me going forward!!! Hoping we can stop this machiavellian boundary redesign!

This is an outrage.

This is an outrage! Why are we being separated and pushed around as though we don’t count? How will this affect schools and education? Brent is already an enormous borough that is struggling to cope and they now want to add more to it, for what reason?

I am strongly against this and it needs to be stopped.

I agree we do not want Shepherds Bush to be split from Hammersmith and Fulham it will downgrade the services which we receive from this borough and be a satilite part of Brent and will not receive investment as there record is not a good one

I have lived in this borough since 1983 and I would be appalled
if it was not kept together. WHY MUST THINGS ALWAYS CHANGE

I believe it is essential that as far as possible constituencies reflect the organic and real life communities. The current Hammersmith constituency does this well within the constraints which govern the drawing of boundaries. The transport links and enable people to take part in civic life , to access services and advice and for an overlap between Parliamentary and Local Authority constituencies which is of great importance for people seeking help and support, or who want to take part in the democratic processes of political and civic life in our community.

At the moment the Hammersmith & Fulham Borough is represented by two MPs with one constituency is entirely within the Borough. This helps give our communities a better sense of cohesion and identity.

I believe the proposed changes worsen the situation for our community and will fragment the sense of identity in our part of London. The proposed changes from Mr Slaughter MP are a more sensible alternative and as a resident of Hammersmith I fully support them.
