Stop the Hospital Closures

Sign the petition!

Reorganisation of the NHS is leading to damaging changes in healthcare in Hammersmith & Fulham. Our borough's population is rising and demand is increasing. Yet, under the planned changes, access to local emergency care will be drastically reduced.

  • Charing Cross Hospital will be demolished. Much of the site will be sold off to developers to pay for redevelopment of St Mary's and a lesser facility on the remaining land.
  • Hammersmith Hospital's A&E has closed.
  • Charing Cross A&E will be downgraded to an 'emergency centre' run by GPs. There will be no Emergency Medicine consultants on site. Consultants at other sites will provide advice by phone or video link.
  • Because Charing Cross will no longer have a top-tier A&E, its world-class stroke unit will be moved to St Mary's, Paddington.
  • Charing Cross will lose 336 of its 360 in-patient beds, 93% of the total.
  • People who suffer a stroke or who need emergency surgery will have to be taken to St Mary's Paddington instead of Charing Cross. For many, travel times will increase.
  • Travel times for families and carers of these patients will also increase and journeys and parking will be more difficult and more expensive.

We call for an immediate halt to further closures of hospital services in Hammersmith & Fulham, and a full review and public consultation on the future of our local NHS.

The NHS is struggling with the amount of people visiting the hospitals every day.

Hammersmith hospital A&E is a very busy dept, living in the borough my family and myself have used it, the hard work and dedication to the public is amazing from staff.

How can anyone justify taking it away from us all, life’s will be put at risk in doing so.

Other hospitals will be put under extreme pressures to cope with even more emergencies and mistakes would be made.

We have seen criticism and mistakes that have been made by hospital staff on the news quite often due sometimes to working to many hours and the pressures of their jobs.

Surely these mistakes are not just the fault of staff but the consequences of a government who put finances before life!

We need our Hammersmith hospital A&E, stop the closure!

I have had to take my mum to Hammersmith Hospital A&E deptment, the staff there are alway caring and efficient no matter have many people are waiting. If it move to St.Mary’s move people may require ambulance to get there. Public transport /mini cabs ARE NOT the places to be when your bleeding or in great pain.

Please do your best to keep the A&E services at Hammersmith hospital as I can’t count how many times we relied on the service being offered there because of sudden illnesses (the last time was 2 days ago) and we can’t imagine having to go to St Mary’s as we can’t afford a car nor do we imagine getting bus to get to Paddington when an the service is really needed. Our best wishes to your effort to stopping it from happening before the intended closure takes place.

Charing Cross saved my life by admitting me quickly after arriving at A&E. The speed allowed a fairly rapid diagnosis of brain cancer and I had an operation to debulk the tumour within 2 weeks. It’s thanks to A&E, the neuro surgeons and the oncologists that I’m still here two and a half years later.
