Save Shepherds Bush Market

The shopkeepers and small traders at Shepherds Bush Market need your help.

The 100 year-old market, and the neighbouring housing plots, first came under threat when the then-Conservative council in Hammersmith & Fulham authorised a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) on the businesses and traders that refused to sell up to a property developer called Orion. This means that they will lose their stalls even if they don't want to go.

Earlier this year they thought they had been saved as an independent Planning Inspectorate found in their favour, deciding that the market should be saved.

Those hopes have seemingly been squashed by the Tory Planning Minister Brandon Lewis MP who overruled the Inspector, effectively green-lighting the demolition of the market.

I hoped we had seen an end to the bias in favour of developers and away from residents and small business when the Tories lost control of the Council in May but now we have the Government stepping in to tip the scales. The traders have been badly let down by this out of touch government.

Do you agree?

If so, you can join the campaign to save the market by signing my petition which urges the planning minister to listen to locals, protect small business and to U-turn on his damaging decision.

This market is not only part of Shepherd’s Bush but is evidence of the diversity to which the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham promotes.

THEREFORE IT SHOULD STAY OPEN!

I would happily sign a petition to save the market if there was a

campaign that appeared to be organised, 112 signatures

In 12 months, is appallingly lacklustre to say the

least and works more in favour of agreed plans.

Though generally speaking I support the government, I think it is outrageous to abolish markets like Shepherds Bush which are powerful and traditional agents of social cohesion and mainstays of. Of local communities. This is emphatically not the way to reduce the growing gap between rich and poor.

This is a completely inappropriate alternative use of the site putting at risk jobs and livelihoods in a way which is being shamefully supported by central London.

We should support the independent market traders who have been.

let down by the CPO on Shepherds Bush Market. They have survived the onslaught of local redevelopment so far and must be protected so that

They can continue to thrive in this historic site.

We cannot destroy the character of Shepherds Bush by demolishing the market and replacing it with another shopping mall nor taking away the little shops which are all part of our community and way of life…

I Think any improvements made to the market should be agreed with the stallholders and shopkeepers if they don’t agree with the changes then it should not happen , I have known the market since 1969 , I love the old parts of London which are sadly disappearing , this is why I don’t wont to see MORE change .

I am opposed to the removal of shepherds bush market. Nothing good will come of this proposal. The plan is a crime against ordinary people. It is a crime against the history and culture of the local area. Central London is being turned into a no go zone for people on low incomes. This has to stop. In the end it will do none of us any good..
