Ramadan message from Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter
Assalam O Alaikum
I would like to send my warmest and best wishes to everyone marking the holy month of Ramadan.
The core beliefs of Islam, peace, justice and tolerance, are those that we should all hold dear.
Upholding those principles has never been more important. And Ramadan is the time for generosity towards others less fortunate.
With food banks on the rise, more and more families in poverty and lacking decent housing and children going hungry, more than ever we all need reflect on how we can contribute more to society.
Even in these challenging times, British Muslims are among the most generous givers to charity. Muslims make a huge contribution to community, economic and cultural life in Hammersmith and the rest of the UK.
We are lucky to live in one of the most diverse and tolerant cities in the world and I am thankful every day to represent such a vibrant community.
As our Muslim brothers and sisters begin to fast, I would like to wish everyone a peaceful and blessed Ramadan.
P.S – Here is a special Ramadan message from Labour Leader Ed Miliband
